A Sumo Bot
Shermen: This is a sumo bot I created for a DPRG
competition. The DPRG has just introduced this event
this year, so I am excited to get in at the ground
level. I started with a cheap toy tank I found, for a
drive gear. The drive comes from a single direction
geared motor of the original tank I piliged for parts
(I bought two at $3.99 each). For steering, I used an
Ivore circuit, modified to drive a single motor
through a 75AC245 motor driver. This drives a motor
normal to the direction of motion attached to a wheel
with a foot on it. The rotating wheel bumps over the
front end of the bot leading him to an opponent or
away from the ring edge. Simple and somewhat
effective. All up he cost less than $25.
